🤝 The 30-Day SoilSong Guarantee
🤝 The 30-Day SoilSong Guarantee
We want you to feel completely confident in your gardening journey. We guarantee that your new botanical companion will arrive alive and remain healthy for its first week. While minor cosmetic transit stress (like a dropped lower leaf) is a normal part of travel, if your plant arrives severely damaged or unviable, simply email us with photos within 30 days of delivery. We will quickly provide a replacement or store credit.
📦 Pro Shipping & Careful Prep
📦 Pro Shipping & Careful Prep
Every plant is hand-selected and dispatched directly from our specialized California nursery. To ensure a safe journey, our succulents undergo a necessary 24-72 hour air-drying (bare-rooting) process to prevent root rot, while young trees are shipped with soil securely wrapped around their roots. We actively monitor national weather and strategically hold shipments during extreme heat or cold to protect your plant's vitality.
📖 Unboxing & Acclimation
📖 Unboxing & Acclimation
Plants experience travel shock just like we do. Upon arrival, please unbox your plant immediately. Place it in a well-ventilated area with bright, indirect light. Do not expose it to harsh direct sun, heavy watering, or attempt to repot it right away. Allow your plant at least one week to peacefully acclimate to your home's unique microclimate before resuming a standard care schedule.
🌿 Natural Variations & Dormancy
🌿 Natural Variations & Dormancy
Please remember that live plants are unique, natural products. The exact size, shape, and coloration will vary slightly from our product photos. Additionally, deciduous trees shipped in late Fall or Winter will arrive dormant (without leaves). They are perfectly healthy, actively building root strength, and will flush with new growth in the Spring.
Description
Dragon Fruit Cactus Sapling (Selenicereus undatus) is an extraordinarily exotic, fast-growing tropical climbing cactus. It is globally celebrated not only for its vibrant, deliciously sweet, and antioxidant-rich fruit, but also for its spectacular "Moonflowers"—massive, fragrant white blooms that open exclusively at night. Starting your tropical orchard with a starter plant is the ultimate strategic move. It allows the vine to naturally grip your permanent trellis from day one, bypassing severe transplant shock and ensuring a much faster route to your first fruit harvest.
Growth Rate & Habit
Dragon Fruit is an epiphytic climbing cactus with a remarkably fast growth rate. As it matures, the fleshy stems become heavy. It absolutely requires a heavy-duty, reinforced trellis. The traditional method involves training a single main stem up a sturdy post, then allowing branches to cascade over a top framework to stimulate heavy fruiting.
Nocturnal Blooms & Fruit
During the warm summer months, the plant produces enormous white flowers that open at dusk and wilt by morning. If pollinated, these blooms rapidly develop into the iconic bright pink/red fruits. While many modern varieties are self-fertile, hand-pollinating at night is a highly rewarding way to guarantee a massive fruit yield.
Watering and Feeding
Unlike traditional desert cacti, the tropical Dragon Fruit requires regular hydration. Utilize a "soak and dry" method: water deeply, then allow the top few inches of soil to dry out before watering again. Feed regularly from spring through late summer with a balanced, organic fertilizer to fuel its rapid vine growth.
Soil, Light & Hardiness
Excellent drainage is non-negotiable. Plant your sapling in a highly porous, rich sandy loam or cactus mix. It thrives in USDA Zones 10-11 and is highly sensitive to freezing temperatures. Full sun is required to maximize blooms and fruit production, though light dappled shade during peak afternoon heat is acceptable in scorching desert climates.
